Department of Applied Biotechnology

The Department of Applied Biotechnology provides an extensive educational and research program within the specialization of genetic engineering, aiming to offer scientific opportunities to undergraduate students. Each year, numerous original scientific research projects are completed in various fields of genetic engineering, biotechnology, and related sciences. At the undergraduate level, the department offers the opportunity to earn a Bachelor's degree in Genetic Engineering through practical and theoretical lessons, as well as scientific research in almost all branches of genetic engineering. The subjects taught over the four academic years aim to supply the labor market with graduates skilled in biotechnology, contributing to several scientific fields such as:

  • The chemical industries related to the manufacturing of human and animal drugs and vaccines.
  • Gene therapy through the repair of defective genes using genetic engineering and re-injecting them through bone marrow stem cells.
  • The food industry, especially technologies related to genetically modified food materials, as well as the utilization of agricultural waste and its conversion into organic fertilizer.

The courses cover fundamental topics in genetic engineering, including zoology, botany, plant and animal physiology, genetics, ecology, nanotechnology, immunology, histology, biotechnological techniques, and several other sciences. The department has approximately 30 affiliates, most of whom hold Ph.D. and Master's degrees. The faculty members of the Department of Genetic Engineering are distinguished by their high ambition and aspiration to elevate the scientific level to an international standard. Currently, several faculty members are furthering their studies abroad and will contribute to the department upon completing their academic requirements, while others have completed their studies at prestigious scientific universities.
